cont… of MASARA LANDSLIDE

The incident had already been predicted by the locality as well as the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) apparent in their effort of foreclosing the said barangay to prevent occurrence of any tragedy brought about by the unstable ground caused by the active mining activities in the area. Nonetheless, no concrete actions were done for the people themselves refuses to evacuate from the place merely considering their assets and liabilities that they will be losing.

Yet, after the destructive landslides, the properties which the inhabitants prioritized were now covered with boulders of rock and cascades of mud. And with that, are the lives that were wasted which would have been spared if appropriate interventions were promoted and pursued by those in office.

Rehabilitation of the affected area and the displaced families had already been launched aiming to restore what is left from the said tragedy. Together with the plans of officially closing the Poblacion Masara to residential occupants, efforts has also been known regarding the re-establishment of the gold mines within the area. The Masara landslide became a mere natural occuring environmental disaster when in fact it is clearly caused by the consequences brought about by human inflicted activities.
